Breast Enlargement
Breast augmentation is a clinical term and the procedure which is commonly referred to as a breast enlargement or boob job. This is the most popular form of cosmetic surgery procedure completed in the UK. Breast augmentation involves placing an incision in the breast and inserting an implant to change the size and shape of the breast. Breast augmentation is mostly carried out for aesthetic purposes but it is also used for corrective procedures in the case of, for example, a masectomy.
Different types of breast implants
The most well known breast implants are silicon gel and saline. Silicon gel is popular because it is generally less prone to rupture and the material has a very natural look and feel. One of the down sides is that they are 'fixed volume' implants which means that after you've had breast augmentation, the only way to change the size is to introduce a replacement implant. This is the opposite for a saline breast implant whose volume can be changed by accessing a value on the implant. Quite often the saline is placed in the implant after it has been inserted in to the breast which means the incisions are also smaller.
There are many variations of the above implants on the market and technology is forever changing and improving – one of the most recent developments is the Hydrogel breast augmentation implant which combines the benefits of saline and silicon gel.
Breast augmentation cost
Breast augmentation prices vary according to lots of different factors such as the clinic you've chosen, the type of implant and its size. As a rough guide, breast augmentation prices start from around £3,000 and some clinics offer a 0% loan to help with the cost.
